The municipality of Skiathos is a municipality of the Region of Thessaly (Plan Kallikratis based in Skiathos). From 1999 to 2010, according to the then administrative division of Greece, it belonged to the prefecture of Magnesia. With the administrative division of 2011 (Kallikratis Plan), from 1 January 2011 the administrative boundaries of the municipality and its seat have not changed. His administrative subordination, however, was transferred from the Prefecture of Magnesia to the Region of Thessaly. It includes Skiathos and the surrounding islets.
